| 1. Measure your Skirt Waistband: Take a skirt that fits you well and lay it on a flat surface. Use a measuring tape to measure from left to right across the top of the skirt waistband. Do not stretch out the skirt while measuring. Take that measurement and double it. For example, if your skirt measures 17" across, then 17x2=34. Refer to the "Skirt waistband" measurements provided in the skirt's size chart. In this example size chart, a 17" skirt waistband would put you in the size XL, which has a 34" skirt waistband. Also compare your hip measurements to the size chart to make sure it may fit. This is the best way to get the size you need, unless your skirt has an elastic or stretchy waistband. In this case, it is best to measure using the methods described below. | ![]() |
2. Measuring your waist: Stand up straight and relax your abdominal muscles. Wrap the measuring tape completely around your waist. If you are unsure where to measure, then put on a skirt that fits you WELL. Observe where it sits on your waist. Where the top of the skirt waistband touches you is where you should measure. Begin at the spot on the tape where the measure reads "0." Make sure the tape is level around your waistline--not too loose, not too tight. Do not place the measuring tape over clothes or squeeze the tape into your skin. The number that meets the "0" after you have circled your entire waist is your waist measurement. Refer to the size chart Waist to see which size your measurement corresponds to. | ![]() |
3. Measure your hips: Make certain that your clothes are tight fitting or that there is not a lot of loose material around the hip area. The tape measure should be secured at the fullest part of the hip area; this is almost always over the buttocks. Use the small hand-held mirror to look into the larger mirror. Make certain that the tape measure is straight and parallel to the ground. The tape measure should also be snug as well but not cutting into your body. Refer to the size chart Hips to see which size your measurement corresponds to. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
